Position Summary:
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the effective and sanitary operation of the shelter's laundry systems. This role ensures that all guest linens, towels, blankets, and facility-use fabrics are properly laundered, dried, folded, and stocked while maintaining the highest hygiene and infection control standards. The Laundry Attendant plays a critical role in supporting family comfort and safety in a trauma-informed and dignified shelter environment.

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

- Sort, wash, dry, and fold large volumes of laundry including bedding, and towels, as needed.
 - Operate commercial-grade washers and dryers safely and efficiently.
 - Track laundry inventory and ensure clean linens are available for staff to use during room turnovers.
 - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry room, including lint trap cleaning, spill cleanup, and daily equipment checks.
 - Report maintenance or machine issues to the Facilities Manager promptly.
 - Follow strict infection prevention and control procedures to minimize cross-contamination.
 - Collaborate with janitorial and room-flipping staff to support shelter operations.
 - Ensure safe storage and usage of laundry chemicals and cleaning supplies.
 - Engage respectfully with guests and staff; maintain confidentiality and boundaries.
 - Participate in shelter meetings, trainings, or huddles as needed.
 - Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
 - Familiarity with laundry systems and safe handling of chemicals.
 - Ability to follow directions and maintain detailed cleanliness protocols.
 - Strong organizational and time management skills.
 - Clear and respectful communication with diverse staff and guests.
 - Commitment to upholding dignity and respect in every interaction.

Full-Time (may include evenings, weekends, and holidays)
Physical Demands
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and moving equipment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in the on-site laundry room and throughout the shelter campus.
Experience and Education Required
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
 - Prior custodial, housekeeping, or janitorial experience required.
 
Experience and Education Preferred
- Experience with room turnover in hospitality, shelters, or housing programs preferred.
