Position Summary:
The Engagement Support Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and youth-centered programming for children and families staying at the Tamarac Family Non-Congregate Shelter. This position ensures that children and families have regular access to enriching, safe, and developmentally appropriate engagement opportunities that support healing and connection.

Bayaud Works provides critical services and expertise in short- and long-term homeless sheltering, non-congregate and congregate emergency sheltering, and workforce support services. General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

- Plan, facilitate, and evaluate youth and family engagement activities (e.g., arts & crafts, games, movement-based play, literacy, and STEM enrichment).
- Coordinate evening and weekend family programming that is inclusive, safe, and trauma informed.
- Foster meaningful relationships with families through consistency, empathy, and culturally competent communication.
- Support families with school navigation and referrals to youth-focused community services.
- Maintain attendance logs, engagement activity calendars, and summary reports as directed.
- Collaborate with shelter and case management staff to align engagement activities with residents' needs.
- Uphold shelter safety policies and maintain a safe, welcoming environment for children and families.
- Recruit, orient, and supervise volunteers supporting youth programming.
- Participate in staff meetings, ongoing training, and professional development sessions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of child and youth development, trauma-informed care, and family systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead structured activities for children and engage families respectfully.
- Awareness of diverse cultural backgrounds and ability to apply culturally responsive practices.
- Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and attention to documentation.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a shelter team.
Expected Hours of Work
40 hours per week (some evenings, weekends, and holidays included)
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lead physical and recreational activities, indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Requires presence on-site during programming hours in a fast-paced shelter setting.

Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service works with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operations support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include staffing and management for shelter services, safety patrol, janitorial services, transportation, and more.
Experience and Education Required
- Highschool or GED
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children and families in shelter, after-school programs, or community engagement settings.
Experience and Education Preferred
- Associate's degree in education, Human Services, Child Development, Social Work, or related field preferred.
- Experience in trauma-informed environments preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

- Must be able to pass a background check for work with vulnerable populations.
