Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician supports the safe and efficient operation of the Tamarac Family Emergency Non-Congregate Shelter by performing general maintenance, repairs, and custodial tasks. This role ensures the facility is clean, functional, and safe for residents and staff, while maintaining compliance with HOST Shelter Standards, health codes, and safety regulations.

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

- Perform routine maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and carpentry repairs.
- Support custodial and sanitation functions, ensuring facilities are clean, dignified, and family-appropriate.
- Monitor building systems and report deficiencies to the Senior Facilities Manager.
- Assist with preventive maintenance schedules for all systems and equipment.
- Perform daily inspections of common areas, guest rooms, and mechanical systems.
- Respond to work orders and facility repair needs in a timely manner.
- Support laundry, trash removal, and general cleaning duties as needed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, fire/life safety, and HOST requirements.
- Assist with snow removal, groundskeeping, and other seasonal tasks.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance tasks, repairs, and supply usage.
- Safely operate tools, equipment, and chemicals in accordance with training.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Facilities Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of building maintenance (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting).
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely. Must provide own tools.
- Familiarity with OSHA and safety regulations.
- Ability to follow preventive maintenance schedules and complete work orders.
- Good communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Expected Hours of Work
Full-Time (may include evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations)
Physical Demands
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting, bending, and use of ladders/tools.
- Regularly required to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in adverse conditions.

Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service works with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operations support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include staffing and management for shelter services, safety patrol, janitorial services, transportation, and more.
Experience and Education Required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in maintenance, custodial, or building operations.
Experience and Education Preferred
- Experience in commercial or shelter environments preferred.
- OSHA, HVAC, or trade certifications preferred.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a background check for work with vulnerable populations.
- Valid driver's license required; must meet Bayaud Works' motor vehicle insurance standards if driving for work.
