Position Summary:
The Intake Coordinator is the first point of contact for families entering the Tamarac Family Shelter and plays a vital role in welcoming, assessing, and orienting new residents. This position supports smooth entry into shelter services by coordinating documentation, verifying eligibility, and ensuring that guests understand expectations, rights, and available support services.

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

- Conduct intakes and eligibility screenings for incoming residents in alignment with HOST and Bayaud Works standards.
- Complete HMIS entries, intake documentation, and initial assessments promptly and accurately.
- Provide clear orientation to shelter expectations, rules, and services offered.
- Serve as a key liaison between residents, case management, and shelter operations during the intake process.
- Maintain up-to-date records and logs of all new entries, exits, and transitions.
- Ensure guests are introduced to key staff and connected to resources (case managers, medical support, mental health, etc.).
- Assist in identifying immediate needs of guests including housing, safety, language access, or accessibility accommodations.
- Respond to inquiries from guests, community partners, or external agencies regarding shelter availability and referrals.
- Participate in daily briefings, staff meetings, and case conferences.
- Collaborate with Case Managers and Program Staff to ensure a trauma-informed and family-centered intake experience.
- Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and data privacy in all interactions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

- Knowledge of intake protocols, emergency housing systems, and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to welcome families in crisis.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with culturally diverse families and children.
- Strong data entry and documentation skills.

Expected Hours of Work
40 hours per week (some evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required)

- Must be able to respond calmly to emergency situations and walk guests through the shelter facility.

Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service works with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operations support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include staffing and management for shelter services, safety patrol, janitorial services, transportation, and more.
Experience and Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- 2 years' experience in homeless services, shelter intake, or client services.
Experience and Education Preferred
- Experience with HMIS or other data systems preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Additional Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a background check for work with vulnerable populations.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
