About the role
- We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to join our up-and-coming mortgage insurance company. The Expert Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the Company's financial accounting operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial insights to support the company"s growth and profitability. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to lead and mentor a team.
What you"ll do
- General Accounting: Oversee the accounting team responsible for monthly close processes including accounting for premium revenue, insurance claims and reserves, and investments, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant insurance regulations, including state and federal reporting requirements.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and address any findings or recommendations.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. preferred CPA or equivalent certification.
- 7 – 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Minimum skills
- Proficiency in accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics is a plus) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and insurance regulations.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of accounting and financial reporting.
