Position Overview
The Director of MSO Operations plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and optimizing the operations of a portfolio of affiliated and owned primary care practices across Texas and Arizona. The Director is responsible for ensuring successful practice integration, operational efficiency, revenue growth, and alignment with value-based care objectives. This position requires an experienced, hands-on leader with a strong foundation in physician practice operations, particularly in primary care, and the ability to build trust and guide teams through change.
The role involves cross-functional collaboration, ownership of revenue performance, and execution of strategic operational initiatives across multiple sites. A proven ability to work closely with physicians, clinical managers, and administrative teams is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational and financial assessments of medical practices, identifying areas for improvement and strategic growth
- Serve as a key decision-making partner in operational planning, validating proposed changes with Finance and Executive Leadership
- Develop and implement standardized workflows, protocols, and training programs to drive consistent, high-quality patient care and operational outcomes
- Manage full-scale practice transitions from initial agreement through full operational integration, ensuring timely and effective execution
- Oversee clinical and administrative operations to meet or exceed financial, quality, and performance targets
- Introduce continuous improvement processes and quality assurance programs to enhance performance
- Drive growth and efficiency initiatives at the practice level, ensuring alignment with budget and strategic goals
- Identify and mitigate operational risks through proactive planning and escalation
- Build and support operational structures that promote accountability, alignment, and execution across all clinic sites
- Foster high-trust relationships with physicians, clinic leaders, and staff through regular communication and on-the-ground support
- Collaborate with the Value-Based Care team to implement workflows that optimize shared savings and incentive-based payments
- Generate and distribute clear, timely reports on key financial and operational metrics; work closely with Finance and analytics teams to track performance
- Support scaling efforts in both Texas and Arizona, including development of new sites and services
- Hire, train, and mentor clinic managers and middle-management to lead their teams effectively and independently
- Empower clinic leaders to meet clinic-specific KPIs and goals while operating at the top of their licensure
- Lead special operational projects that drive incremental revenue, including oversight of project planning, team engagement, milestone tracking, and performance reporting
- Develop, train, and coordinate with special project teams to ensure successful implementation of initiatives across clinics
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive operational leadership experience in healthcare
- Direct oversight of multiple outpatient medical practices, specifically in a primary care setting
- Strong background in practice management, revenue cycle operations, vendor management, and clinical team leadership
- Demonstrated success managing through organizational change, including acquisitions or practice integrations
- Highly strategic, organized, and results-driven with exceptional problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to build strong, respectful relationships with physicians and other key stakeholders
- Skilled at leading cross-functional teams and driving accountability in a high-growth environment
- Experience in value-based care and quality programs is required
- Familiarity with health plan contract models, compliance requirements, and payor performance metrics
Education & Required Background
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required
- Clinical credentials or experience strongly preferred
- Experience working in both the Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix, Arizona markets preferred
Travel Requirements
- Routine travel to Arizona is required, including support for practices in the Phoenix metro area
- Regular travel within the Dallas-Fort Worth area is also required
