About the role
Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) bridge the gap between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals by providing credible scientific and medical information regarding products and therapies.
MSLs establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the medical and scientific community to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and insights about new treatments and research developments.
The job of an MSL exists to ensure accurate and up-to-date information dissemination, foster collaboration between pharmaceutical companies and the medical community, and ultimately support the effective use of new medical innovations in clinical practice.
What you"ll do
- Engage in peer-to-peer scientific exchange of complex clinical and scientific information with rare disease experts in NPC and UCDs. Deliver scientifically credible and consistent value-based information to public and private payer segments
- Develop and cultivate relationships with cross-functional Zevra partners. Work collaboratively to rapidly respond to questions from within your territory
- Contribute to company success by gathering medical insights to inform company strategy and research/data generation initiatives
- Build your reputation as a trusted, unbiased medical/scientific partner that provides high quality scientific expertise to support appropriate use of Zevra's treatments. Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in our therapeutic areas.
- Support research initiatives across development as requested to include but not limited to, site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and study management. Facilitate access to educational grant request process and facilitate Investigator-initiated program activity alignment with our rare disease areas of scientific interest
- Collaborate and coordinate with other field roles to identify local/regional educational gaps/needs and appropriate field medical support while maintaining full compliance with relevant requirements
- Attend appropriate scientific meetings, conduct routine information research and provide ongoing disease and product training to internal and field personnel
- Represent Zevra and our therapeutics at relevant scientific congresses and meetings. Provide clinical/scientific presentations to internal and external groups tailored to the specific audience
- Adhering to corporate compliance policies in all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information
- Travel expectations ~70%; West/Central US Geography, LA or San Francisco based preferred locations
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD) or Advanced Clinical Degree (NP, PA, etc)
- Minimum of at least 3 years of experience as an MSL. Experience strongly preferred in rare diseases, and particularly Urea Cycle Disorders (UCD), Niemann-Pick disease (NPC), and other rare diseases primarily due to inborn genetic errors are strongly desired
- Self-motivated “get it done” mentality
- Product launch experience - preferable
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific and medical information to both internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are imperative; ability to anticipate and adapt to change; strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with partners, investigators, contractors, consultants, and team members across functions
- Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to work independently yet engage in collaboratively within Field team to complete tasks in a timely fashion
- Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment
- Ability to complete all training and pass all certifications within the allotted timeframe
