The Mission
RDI runs complex, project-based research studies for biotech and large public diagnostic manufacturers. We help sponsors execute studies that don’t fit easily into standard CRO or clinical lab models — and that means our lab has to be as adaptable, reliable, and precise as the science demands.
We’re now building out our internal lab capacity. We don’t need someone to maintain an existing system — we need someone to help build it. You will be one of the most critical operators in this effort, working directly with the CEO, COO, and project managers to scale our lab operations as client demand grows.
The Role
Navigate multiple active protocols, shifting study designs, external vendors, tight client timelines. Low bureaucracy, high ambiguity. Calm inside chaos required.
You will:
- Own day-to-day lab execution across multiple active studies.
- Build and refine systems for scheduling, sample handling, inventory, documentation, and protocol adherence.
- Partner with PMs to align study timelines with lab capacity.
- Coordinate vendors for supplies, kits, consumables, and logistics.
- Maintain audit-readiness documentation and operational discipline.
- Continuously improve SOPs, documentation systems, and lab processes as we scale.
Who Thrives Here
You’re a builder by nature. You see operational gaps and fill them. You take responsibility for outcomes without needing to be asked. You’re not looking for a highly defined role — you’re excited by the opportunity to help architect systems from scratch while executing at a high level every day.
You enjoy:
- Turning ambiguity into structure.
- Building calm inside operational chaos.
- Working in a small, mission-driven team where your work has direct, visible impact.
What We’re Looking For
- 5–10 years in lab operations, clinical research, CROs, diagnostics, or related fields.
- Experience managing day-to-day lab execution, including inventory, scheduling, sample management, and documentation.
- Strong familiarity with regulated environments (CLIA, CAP, GCP helpful but not required).
- Highly organized with strong systems-thinking.
- Calm under pressure with strong client service instincts.
- Excellent communicator across technical and non-technical teams.
Nice-to-Haves (Not Required)
- Exposure to assay development, LIMS/ELN systems, or clinical protocol design.
- Experience interfacing with vendors, auditors, and regulatory consultants.
- Prior experience scaling small lab teams.
The Reality
Small team. Big responsibility. High autonomy. Real impact.
This role isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build something meaningful inside an emerging research company at the exact moment it's scaling, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
RDI is headquartered in Van Nuys, CA this role will require on-site presence at our lab facility.
