About the Role:
The Perioperative Support Assistant is an essential member of the surgical services team, responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of patient care throughout the perioperative process. This role includes preparing patient room, assisting patients with dressing and mobility, transporting patients to and from surgical areas, and ensuring equipment and supplies are ready for use.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a perioperative or healthcare support role.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Escort and transport patients safely to and from the Pre-Op, Operating Room, PACU and other designated areas.
- Prepare and turn over Pre-Op and PACU bays between patients, ensuring rooms are clean, sanitized, stocked and ready for use.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain perioperative equipment in accordance with infection prevention and regulatory standards.
- Stock, organize, and monitor medical supplies and equipment, reporting inventory shortages as needed.
- Perform basic clerical duties.
- Assist nursing and perioperative staff with patient preparation, mobility, and non-clinical support tasks.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to support seamless patient care and department operations.
Skills:
Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential for coordinating with staff to anticipate needs and respond promptly. Attention to detail and organizational skills are used daily to manage inventory and uphold safety protocols. Preferred skills such as familiarity with EHR systems and additional certifications enhance the assistant's ability to integrate technology and advanced practices into their workflow. Together, these skills ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative support.
Compensation details: 20-22 Hourly Wage
