Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist I to join our Patient Business Services team. In this important role, you will help ensure accurate and timely billing, support patients with the financial aspects of their healthcare journey, and contribute to the organization's overall financial health. As a Patient Accounts Specialist I, you will be responsible for processing claims, managing insurance denials, following up on outstanding balances, and ensuring accounts are resolved accurately and efficiently—while upholding NVRH’s mission, vision, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and resolve patient accounts, including billing, follow‑up, denial management, and assigned A/R responsibilities while supporting positive patient relations.
- Ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance, maintaining attention to detail and adhering to hospital policies, confidentiality, safety standards, and emergency procedures.
- Manage workload effectively, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and supporting team productivity through collaboration and assistance.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, demonstrating NVRH’s Standards of Behavior and AIDET principles while communicating clearly and respectfully with patients, coworkers, and departments.
Qualifications
- 1–5 years’ experience in hospital access, medical office secretary work, or billing with insurance processing involvement preferred
- Familiarity with CMS1500 and UB04 claim forms
- Strong analytical, communication, and basic math skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related programs.
