Associate Staff Chaplain
The Associate Chaplain provides pastoral care to patients, families, and employees by assisting them in integrating the experience of illness, trauma, and loss with their own religious beliefs and convictions. The chaplain also liaises between patients and their families, physicians, and employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Routinely provides pastoral care for individuals and groups in all inpatient areas and can serve in outpatient areas as needed.
- Assesses spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families of patients, and personnel while respecting their religious beliefs.
- Covers on-call shifts; arrives at the facility within 20 minutes of being paged.
- Provides effective pastoral intervention during codes and other patient crises, including at the time of patient death.
- Utilizes technology to document accurate information on each patient and family encounter in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Creates and facilitates spiritual rituals for patients, families, and employees.
- Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide total patient care.
- Makes referral to patient’s pastor for sacramental ministry as requested.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in theology or equivalent degree required; Master’s Degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or equivalent degree preferred.
Experience:
Three years’ experience in healthcare chaplaincy or equivalent ministerial experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Ordination and current ecclesiastical endorsement within their denomination required. Units of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred. Actively working toward certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) preferred.
