Position Overview
The Lab Operations Manager Lead plays a crucial role in managing and enhancing the shared laboratory and office facilities at Bonneville Labs. This position blends hands-on laboratory operations with leadership responsibilities in project execution, vendor management, and customer experience. The individual in this role will ensure that members benefit from a safe, compliant, and dependable work environment, while also contributing to process improvements and supporting the growth of Bonneville Labs' operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is someone with a robust background in laboratory operations, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities
Lab & Facilities Operations
·Oversee and carry out, as needed, all site operations duties, including tasks typically performed by coordinators and technicians. We believe in a hands on culture.
·Engage proactively with members to identify, document, and resolve service, equipment, and supply issues. Utilize a ticketing system to track and communicate resolution status.
·Lead and collaborate with the Bonneville Labs team and external vendors for lab support services, equipment maintenance, and facilities management.
·Maintain and improve shared equipment for member company use; prior experience with shared core facilities is highly valued.
·Ensure facility and equipment compliance through chemical inventory managementincluding receiving, tracking, and waste disposal.
·Oversee and participate in autoclaving dishes and media, as well as providing sterilization services when necessary.
·Clean and maintain common equipment areas, such as biosafety cabinets, incubators, and shared instruments.
·Conduct routine inspections of safety showers, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and maintain PPE/safety supply stations.
·Monitor and replenish shared resources, including dry ice and liquid nitrogen.
·Coordinate medical and biohazardous waste removal and transfer to accumulation areas.
·Assist with site improvements, including small construction projects, to ensure Bonneville Labs remains a professional and appealing environment.
·Travel between Bonneville Labs sites and member sites as required, up to 50% of the time.
·Participate in the evening and weekend on-call rotation.
Operational Excellence & Process Improvement
·Contribute to the development, updating, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for site operations.
·Identify, lead, and implement process improvements to boost efficiency, safety, and the overall customer experience.
·Track and maintain operational quality metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), applying lean methodologies for continuous improvement.
·Help refine policies and procedures to serve as templates for current and future Bonneville Labs sites.
Member & Customer Experience
·Support member onboarding and offboarding processes, tracking progress using spreadsheets and operational systems.
·Manage and deliver training to members on proper use of shared equipment.
·Work collaboratively with the Bonneville Labs team to ensure an exceptional experience for member companies.
·Provide customer-facing support and service, maintaining a responsive and professional approach at all times.
·Serve as a trusted partner to members, anticipating and fulfilling their operational needs.
·Participate in and lead customer meetings to support ongoing services.
Other Responsibilities
·Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support Bonneville Labs' success.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
·Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field (required).
·Minimum of 5 years' experience in laboratory operations, facilities management, or a research environment.
·Experience in a customer-facing role (3 years preferred).
·Strongly preferred: project coordination or project management experience with background running larger laboratory equipment programs a double pus.
Skills & Knowledge
·Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to self-manage in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
·Strong proficiency in written and verbal communication in English.
·Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with ticketing/tracking systems or project management software is desirable.
·Ability to follow established protocols while contributing to process improvements.
·Exceptional customer service mindset and collaborative team skills.
Certifications & Training
·Formal certifications not required; however, training in EH&S, HazMat, and bloodborne pathogens is highly desirable.
Physical & Travel Requirements
·Valid driver's license required; ability to travel between sites up to 50% of the time (including East Bay locations).
·Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; the role requires regular walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying light objects (less than 10 lbs.).
·Must perform all duties with utmost attention to safety, quality, and site protocols.
The pay range for this role is:80,000 - 120,000 USD per year(BV Labs SSF)
