Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer performs a varietyof echocardiograms, obtaining M-Mode, 2D, and Doppler images, stress echo images, and Tran esophageal echo images. S/he measures and calculates data to assist the physician in the interpretation of these procedures Recognizes significant patient observations and echo findings, and reports to RN and/or physician.
Education:Graduate of 2 year Allied Health Education Program that is patient care related or graduate of CAAHEP Ultrasound/Vascular education program and a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer.
Gains on-the-job training under the guidance of appropriate technicians and physicians. Necessary traits include verbal and numerical abilities and manual dexterity. Must relate well with people. ACLS required.
Licensure/Certification: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or certification by the ARRT in sonography and vascular sonography required within 1 year of eligibility or 1 year of hire, whichever is later. BLS and ACLS are also required.
Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full time clinical ultrasound experience is required..
Skills: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to exhibit patience and tact and maintain a professional and courteous demeanor in all situations with all constituents including patients, physicians and other associates. Must also demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Performs a variety of ultrasound exams including abdominal, OB-GYN and vascular.
