- Follows provider orders to schedule surgery at multiple facilities, noting which OR will be used, appropriate time frames, length of procedure and protocols for surgery, and faxes info to hospital/ surgery center
- Verifies patient insurance eligibility, assists with completion of referral and prior auth needs.
- Counsels patients regarding their potential financial obligations, insurance coverage, and payments.
- Reviews pre-op instructions with the patient and family, as directed by physician
- Manages provider schedules as directed, reschedules patients or adds clinic time as needed Demonstrates thorough understanding of surgery scheduling guidelines, hospital and surgery center guidelines, insurance requirements, registration and billing protocols
- Completes all patient registration and pre- and post-op appointment scheduling by protocol, including confirming demographics, insurance and payment information, and appointment needs
- Order and arrange for home care needs including wound care, CPM machines, port-a-cath, ice machine, DVT sleeve, etc.
- Takes messages using eCW Telephone Encounters following protocol
- Maintain PA assist schedule and MD block time
- Identifies urgent calls, and expedites to the appropriate person for immediate response
- Pulls and distributes faxes in eCW, maintains work queues and scanned documents throughout the day following protocol
- Makes calls to confirm surgery appointments and post-op follow up calls to patients
- Responds to patient email, portal messages, and voicemails
- Pages physicians following protocol
- Completes other tasks as directed by management.
- Attends staff meetings and continuing education
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years related experience
- Experience in eClinical Works and/or Surgimate preferred
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field preferred
- Medical assistant or nursing experience a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology required
- Demonstrated ability to handle high volume of calls in fast paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills including EMR and MS Office
- Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of patient, patient account, and personal data
- Commitment to excellence, high standards, and continuously improving the quality of care provided to patients
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
