Reports to the Manager, Early Childhood Services. Responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Nutritionists and Clinic Assistants, developing the nutrition education plan and maintaining day-to-day operations of the WIC clinic(s). Duties include: developing, implementing and monitoring the nutrition/health components of the WIC program; training and supervising assigned associates; actively participating in grant acquisition and strategic planning activities. Duties are performed in accordance with WIC legal and regulatory standards. This WIC agency adopts the belief of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) policy statement "Human milk is species-specific, and all substitute feeding preparations differ markedly from it, making human milk uniquely superior for infant feeding." Develops the nutrition and health components of the WIC program by:
- Developing, implementing and evaluating the Nutrition Education Plan on a timely basis.
- Ensuring infection control policies and Universal Precautions are implemented and followed by associates.
- Distributing, collecting and summarizing the annual WIC Time Study Report.
- Organizing, maintaining and evaluating educational materials used in nutrition education activities.
- Consistently promoting and supporting breastfeeding as the norm for mothers and infants and encouraging the duration of breastfeeding.
Plans, coordinates and supervises the activities and daily work assignments of the Nutritionists and Clinic Assistants to maintain efficient clinic operations by:
- Developing a work schedule for the Nutritionists according to clinic caseload.
- Monitoring the scheduler to ensure a steady flow of clients and meet state guidelines.
- Ensuring the class schedules for nutrition and health education classes are prepared in advance.
- Initiating and monitoring Hospital-based certification.
- Monitoring nutritional consultations to ensure counseling is performed efficiently and appropriately.
- Evaluating the appropriateness of client referrals and clinic information given by the Nutritionists.
- Reviewing computer charts and observing the intake certification process periodically to: 1) ensure clinical standards are being maintained and 2) ascertain if intake assessment and documentation are being performed accurately.
- Maintaining adequate medical supplies, laboratory equipment and educational material for the clinic.
- Training, supervising and evaluating the performance of anthropometric measurements by the Clinic Assistants.
- Scheduling appropriate activities for student and dietetic interns.
- Fielding questions and/or resolving complaints from either clients or agencies utilizing WIC services.
- Maintaining program viability by meeting individual and clinic caseload assignments.
Supports the Program Manager by:
- Hiring, training, supervising, counseling and appropriately disciplining staff.
- Monitoring vendor activities and assisting with vendor training.
- Plans and oversees staffing and participation in Health Fairs.
- Substituting as WIC Coordinator when the Manager is unavailable.
- Maintaining outreach log.
- Writing and administrating performance evaluations on the Nutritionists.
- Creating personal development plans with the Nutritionists.
- Preparing the annual in-service training plan and conducting staff meetings.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating program goals and objectives.
- Participating in the annual budget process.
- Compiling, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information to evaluate program goals and caseload management objectives.
- Participating in the grant acquisition and strategic planning activities.
- Participating in the development, recommendation and implementation of administrative policies, procedures and quality plans and operational strategies for the WIC program.
- Monitoring timecards on a regular basis and makes corrections as needed.
- Assuming responsibility for building maintenance including key disbursement, arrangements for general repairs and regular maintenance programs (i.e., snow removal).
- Participating as requested in Hospital or Beacon Health System efforts or initiatives.
Participates in appropriate community activities by:
- Providing information, consultation and education to agencies/groups.
- Readily capturing opportunities to communicate information about WIC services; planning and participating in community health initiatives and activities.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Substituting for the Nutritionists on a rotating basis.
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or Home Economics with an emphasis in nutrition as defined by Indiana WIC standards and regulations; or a nursing degree from an accredited program as well as a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. A minimum of five years of related clinical experience is required with a minimum of three years at the managerial/supervisory level preferred. CPR certification, as well as being certified by the American Dietetics Association as a Registered Dietician, is preferred.

- Requires mathematical and analytical ability to perform various computations, prepare monthly reports and interpret data, as well as recommend appropriate actions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer systems and applications.
