JOB SUMMARY
-
The Wound Nurse functions primarily as a consultant providing direct patient care and education to selected patients. Under the direction of a physician, is responsible and accountable for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of wound and ostomy care for patients. Provides outpatient care to patients with fistulas regarding implementing interventions related to collection of the effluent with a physician's order. Provides for staff development in areas of expertise. Serves as a consultant for product recommendations in areas of expertise. Maintains records and statistics reflecting role performance; participates in quality improvement and projects as indicated.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Professional & Technical Skills
-
Successful completion of hospital orientation. Possess knowledge of principles of wound care. Experience gained through individual/classroom instruction. Minimum one year experience as an RN.

Education

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with minimum of BSN degree. Graduation from an accredited WOC Nursing Education Program with minimum of wound and ostomy completion or satisfactory completion of the program within 12 months of employment.

License(s) or Certification(s)

Must possess a current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse. Certification required in Wound and Ostomy Care or completion of Certification in 12 months of employment.
