Patient Safety Tech
A Brief Overview
The Patient Safety Tech (CNA), working under the supervision and guidance of professional nursing staff provides ongoing monitoring of the patient to assist the health care team maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
What you will do
- Receives assignments as directed in accordance with established policies and procedures including age specific patient needs. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care and meet patient needs in a caring, compassionate, and sensitive manner.
- Provides patient care by performing assigned tasks for patient care plan implementation. * Delivers general hygiene such as bath, shower, grooming, oral care. * Assists with elimination via urinals, bedpans, bowel and/or bladder programs. * Transfers and ambulates patients. * Assists with post mortem care. * Assists and prepares patients for meals, including feeding patients. * Assists in turn, cough and deep breathing routines. * Assists in activities of daily living. * Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients. * Makes beds both occupied and unoccupied. * Maintains record of fluid intake and output. * Completes calorie count and other nutrition information as delegated. * Provides measures of comfort and convenience (i.e., water, blankets, etc.).
- Performs technical procedures as delegated and after observation by the RN/LPN according to unit policy. * Takes and records patient’s vital signs * Takes and records height and weight. * Applies dressings, compresses, bandages and preoperative skin preps. * Applies heat and cold.
- Sits in the patient’s room with an unobstructed view of the patient to observe the patient and maintain a safe environment.
- Provides nourishments and water, prepares patients for meals by assisting with tray set up.
- Accompanies and remains with patient for clinical tests or procedures off the unit.
- Provides direct patient care in accordance with patient treatment plans to meet the personal needs and comfort of patient as directed by RN/Nursing Supervisor.
- Reports any unusual changes in the patient’s condition or behavior to patient’s primary nurse or team leader/PCC.
- Transports records, equipment and supplies to and from department in a safe and timely manner.
- Interacts and communicates with members of the health care team, patients and visitors in a customer responsive and courteous manner.
- Keeps patient and nursing areas clean and orderly. Assists with stocking supplies/inventory.
- Adheres to established department policies and procedures and maintains compliance, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control programs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent Required
- Completion of an approved nursing assistant program Preferred
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire Required or
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire Preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience clinical experience in an acute care setting or as a one-on-one care provider/sitter. Required
