A Brief Overview
The Lead Registry Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting clinical data for all records meeting inclusion criteria within the trauma clinical area. Records are abstracted accurately using all ICD10 and AIS codes in the trauma registry. Records should be organized, aggregated and reported to end users and/or third party registry as required. The Lead Registry Analyst should support the Level 1 Trauma Center designated by the State of Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas and/or the American College of Surgeons, National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). What you will do
- In conjunction with other trauma registry personnel, participate in and direct all functions of maintaining trauma registry database. Duties to include: identification of trauma patients, data collection from multiple electronic sources and medical records, and data entry.
- Review medical records/charts to accurately abstract and record registry data ensuring compliance with joint commission, state, accrediting and other agency requirements and registry guidelines
- Maintain accuracy of the trauma database through validation, hardware and software maintenance and upgrades, data dictionary changes and regular backups.
- Protect and maintain confidentiality of patient data maintained within the registry. Release registry information only to authorized persons, in accordance with HIPAA/ compliance policies and procedures
- Responsible for meeting all requirements for data collection and submission per for State and National Trauma Databank requirements.
- Collects clinical data for inclusion within the Elvis Presley Trauma Center database registry in support of organizational quality and safety initiatives. Directs daily workflow processes while continually assessing workflow procedures for maximum efficiency.
- Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of new or revised information technology (to include import functions/interfacing tools/applications systems/automation) for the trauma database. Interprets data, anticipates needs for additional data, and prepares high quality presentation graphs/reports. Ability to effectively present information to multiple disciplines.
- Supervises the day to day activities of assigned Trauma Registry staff to include participation in performance reviews in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager.
- Confer and work collaboratively with medical/hospital staff, HIM department, EMS services, referring facilities and other external data sources in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to implement registry activities.
- Coordinates all trauma database related responsibilities during a trauma center designation/verification visit. Includes participation in PRQ preparation, chart selection, and chart preparation.
- Functions as a regional, state and national resource in the management of a trauma database and also participates in collaborative State projects. Maintains personally required CEUs for certifications annually as required by ACS. Maintains records of required CEUs of the Trauma Registry staff as required by ACS.
- Supervises adherence to hospital policies and procedures and standards through observation, medical record review, staff feedbacks and other appropriate sources.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Health Information Management; Computer Science (with healthcare experience), Nursing, or related field Required and
- Completed an approved 8 hour Trauma Registry course Required and
- Current in most recent version of AAAM’s AIS course Required and
- Current ICD-10 course or refresher every 5 years Required
- CSTR - Certified Specialist Trauma Registry ATS within 1 Year Required and
- RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire Preferred
- CAISS - Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (AAAM) within 1-1/2 Yrs Required
- Minimum 3 years experience in trauma data base coding/abstraction i.e. DI’s V5 and Collector, ImageTrend Required
- Previous research experience Preferred
- DI Report Writer, Soarian, Cerner, ImageTrend Preferred
