JOB SUMMARY
-
The Laboratory Specimen Processor is responsible for accurate receipt, sorting, accessioning, and preparation of clinical specimens for both in-house and send-out testing. This position reviews test orders for completeness and accuracy and ensures proper patient and specimen identification at all times. The Specimen Processor supports timely testing by ensuring specimens are correctly labeled, processed, stored, and delivered to the appropriate laboratory departments in accordance with established procedures. This role utilizes hospital and laboratory information systems to audit selected manual and electronic orders, document specimen information, and maintain accurate records. The Specimen Processor plays a critical role in maintaining specimen integrity, meeting storage and transport requirements, and supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory operations.
