What You'll Do as a Pre-Registration Specialist
- Verify all demographic and insurance information prior to service.
- Provide estimated service costs and collect or prepare patients to pay on arrival.
- Educate patients on financial policies as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers.
- Handle interactions in an ethical manner, practicing compassion and respect for each person's dignity and worth.
- Respond quickly and accurately to emergencies in the work environment.
- Support top-tier outcomes for patient experience, quality, and safety.
- Approach work with a bias for action, efficiency, and personal accountability, modeling UNC Health Appalachian's Mission, Vision, and Values.
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience:
- Two years of customer service experience preferred.
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.
- Exceptional customer service and a personable approach with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Typing, computer, word processing, and mathematical skills.
- Ability to coordinate, organize, and manage multiple tasks and details.
Physical & Work Environment
- Prolonged sitting, with periods of standing and walking; frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 lbs; manual dexterity and mobility required.
- Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition; near visual acuity and close eye work; speaking, reading, and writing for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
