- Compensation: Starting at $34.00 per hour, based on education and experience.

What You'll Do as an Imaging RN
- Provide nursing care to patients in the Imaging Department undergoing diagnostic or invasive procedures.
- Manage scheduling for IR procedures, including patient assessment, medical record and medication review, and confirming procedure prep is complete.
- Monitor patients pre-procedure, during procedure (including moderate sedation), and post-procedure.
- Discharge or transfer patients to inpatient areas, providing the receiving unit with a report before transfer.
- Perform after-care follow-up for outpatients.
- Provide back-up technical support for paracentesis/thoracentesis when an ultrasound tech is unavailable.
- Handle interactions with patients and families in an ethical manner, practicing compassion and respect.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers.
- Respond quickly and accurately to emergencies and changes in patient condition.
- Adhere to UNC Health Appalachian policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior, practicing within the nurse practice act and scope of license.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Experience:
- 2 years of general nursing experience required.
- 1 year of experience in a similar role and scope preferred, including ICU or OR experience with moderate sedation.
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Current RN licensure in North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications from the American Heart Association required within 1 year of hire.
- Cardiac Surgery Critical Care (CSC) certification through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses [flagged — see note below].
- Certification through the Association for Radiologic & Imaging Nursing (ARIN) preferred, after a minimum of 1 year practicing in this role.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills; ability to work within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.
- Competence in delivering safe, effective patient care within the legal limits of license, certifications, and hospital policy.
- Knowledge of the continuum of nursing care provided in the department.
- Exceptional customer service for patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Physical & Work Environment
- Prolonged standing and walking, often 8+ hours per shift; frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.
- Frequently lift, position, push, pull, or transfer 50+ lbs; frequently mobilize patients; manual dexterity and mobility required.
- Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition; near visual acuity and close eye work; speaking, reading, and writing for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Occasional exposure to vibration, cramped spaces, and ionizing/nonionizing radiation (x-ray, microwave).
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
