Our client, an underground gold mining operation based in the Barberton area of Mpumalanga, is seeking to appoint a Miner to join its operations team.
About the Role
The Miner is responsible for achieving performance targets within allocated sections through the planning, organising and control of day-to-day operations.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- National Senior Certificate (with Mathematics and English)
- Valid Blasting Certificate
- Gas Testing Certificate
- Competent A Certificate
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in underground gold mining
Additional Criteria
- Medically fit and able to work in challenging underground conditions
- Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
- Experience and knowledge of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) practices and relevant legislation
- Self-mastery — takes accountability for own growth through developing self-awareness, reflecting, seeking feedback and self-correcting
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure that section targets are met
- Improve performance and reduce costs
- Ensure the team adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs)
- Provide safe and healthy working conditions
- Build the capabilities of in-section personnel
- Conduct section inspections to eliminate risks
- Ensure conformance to legal and mining requirements
- Identify and implement best practices
- Coach and develop subordinates
- Execute administrative support work efficiently and accurately
