Role Description
The Diesel Mechanic - TMM role is a full-time, on-site position based in Barberton, Mpumalanga, focused on maintaining and repairing trackless mobile machinery and related diesel-powered equipment. Day-to-day responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical faults, performing scheduled and preventive maintenance, and conducting repairs on heavy equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4) or Equivalent
- 5 Years experience working within TMM environment, with 3 years being at an underground mine, performing maintenance work on trackless mobile machinery specifically (Drill rigs, Dump trucks and LHDs).
- Previous work on TMM MAKE such Aard, Fermel, GHH, Atlas, GMG, Sandvik, Bird Machines is an advantage.
Additional Criteria
- Mechanical Aptitude – ability to apply the fundamentals of basic automotive repair and maintenance technology and to recognize and respond to typical and maintenance defects.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic circuits.
- Ability to prioritize – The ability to place issues, tasks and objectives in order in terms of their relative importance.
Responsibilities and duties
- 100% compliance with Mine Health & Safety Act, COPs, SOPs, and company SHE policies.
- All hazards and risks identified, reported, and controlled timeously
- Planned maintenance tasks completed as per maintenance schedule (%).
- Completion of job cards, service sheets, hand-over reports. Lock-out and isolation procedures applied 100% of the time
- Repairs conducted according to OEM and workshop standards
- Systems tested and signed off post-repair
- Work done is recorded in machine history book/file.
- Lubrication, inspections, and service checklists completed correctly
