JOB SUMMARY
-
The Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (ICU RN) provides safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients across the lifespan. The ICU RN practices in accordance with professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies to support continuous assessment, timely intervention, and rapid escalation of care for patients with complex and life-threatening conditions. The ICU RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care; collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team; and supports patient stabilization, ongoing monitoring, and safe transitions of care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and adherence to patient safety, quality, and documentation standards consistent with Joint Commission and CMS expectations. The ICU RN is accountable for their professional practice under their own RN license and practices within the scope defined by state nurse practice acts and organizational policy. The ICU RN may delegate and oversee care provided by assistive personnel and may assume charge or leadership responsibilities as assigned. The position reports to the department Director.
