Mainframe Software Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mainframe Software Engineer to join our FCSD/Service Quality team. In this role, you will serve as the primary Mainframe Developer for the Recall Suite of applications, providing critical support for ongoing operations while driving strategic modernization initiatives. You will collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, and fellow engineers to deliver projects and features that meet current business needs and advance our application migration journey to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an integral member of the FCSDTech/Service Quality team, supporting Recall and Software FSA products
- Provide on-call and production support, responding promptly to incidents and business-critical issues
- Design, develop, and maintain Mainframe COBOL and JCL code to meet support and project requirements
- Complete mandatory features to support Software FSA and compliance requirements
- Address product team deliverables and actively manage the development backlog
- Review and support defect resolution efforts, assisting in prioritizing issues within the backlog
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with a focus on quick resolution and root cause analysis
- Perform application support tasks including systems support, security/audit reviews, and maintenance activities
- Ensure products deliver strong value propositions for both customers and the business
- Participate in the collaborative product modernization journey alongside IT products, vendors, and business customers
- Conduct unit and integration testing to ensure code quality and reliability
- Implement and support system-to-system communication using z/OS Connect, SFTP, SOAP, and REST APIs
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- Experience Level: 6+ years in IT with 4+ years in software development
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in mainframe development with expertise in COBOL (IMS), JCL, and batch/real-time processing
- Advanced practical experience in at least one coding language or practical experience in two or more coding languages
- Strong background in design, analysis, and coding of mainframe applications
- Experience with CA7, DB2, and/or BigQuery
- Knowledge of COBOL Stored Procedures
- 2+ years implementing z/OS Connect, SFTP, SOAP, and REST APIs for system-to-system communication and data exchange
- Proficiency with source code management tools such as Endeavor and GitHub
- Core Competencies:
- Ability to design, develop, and maintain Mainframe COBOL and JCL code
- Strong troubleshooting and incident resolution skills with ability to work quickly under pressure
- Capability to perform comprehensive application support tasks
- Unit and integration testing experience
- Ability to work independently and take initiative when solving unexpected problems

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Familiarity with cloud migration strategies and modernization initiatives
- Previous experience in a product-focused development environment
