Position Summary
Leads the Clinical Laboratory in the proper operation of the laboratory and provides technical direction to technologists in performing basic and more complex clinical technologist services. Acts as a senior specialist in planning assays through the conceptual, developmental and execution stages. Performs all routine and non-routine tests leading to the successful completion of the drug assays and the method development experiments. Performs quality control testing, troubleshoots equipment problems, performs instrument maintenance and prepare patient data for reporting. Produces accurate test results for all patients.
Essential Duties
- Manages/supervises and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, and disciplines, and rewards.
- Responsible for implementation and validation, of new procedures, as well as new regulations introduced by governing bodies. Independently design and execute new test validations as directed by leadership.
- Optimize all testing procedures for the mass spectrometer instrumentation, including implementing automation to reduce hands-on testing time and faster, accurate test results.
- Follows the laboratory’s and NJH established policies and procedure manuals. Is responsible to ensure staff has reviewed and signed laboratory and personnel SOP on an annual basis.
- Participates and maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Reviews and coordinates proficiency testing as directed. Conducts staff re-education as applicable.
- Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Performs QC review as necessary. Immediately addresses any significant issues or trends observed with supervisor.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Performs root cause analysis of events as directed by supervisor. Monitors data for trends and immediately reports any trends observed to supervisor.
- Performs, observes, and reviews competencies (including age-specific competencies and/or non-human species) as identified through the departmental competency program. Is responsible for all departmental staff adherence to competency protocol and departmental SOPs.
- Continually improves laboratory operations and performs extra projects of increasing complexity and skill and completes projects as directed and approved by the leader. Review and update procedure manuals and prepare for laboratory audits and inspections.
- Follows set guidelines to troubleshoot/correct assay problems or instrument malfunctions. Performs maintenance and works with supervisor/manager in troubleshooting QC or instrument problems. Identifies and assists in troubleshooting with peers and ensures final resolution of problems is fully documented and communicated to team. Monitors for trends and immediately addresses any trends observed.
- Functions as technical supervisor or general supervisor (per CLIA and CAP) as applicable. Leads the work of the laboratory providing effective communication, direction, guidance and resources as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development and execution of strategic goals and initiatives, including growth of our laboratory test utilization based on market demands. Submit posters, co-write publications, and represent ADx at conferences.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or a related scientific field required; Masters preferred.
- Work Experience: Four years of laboratory experience required. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and mass spectrometery techniques to analyze chemical samples within a laboratory environment preferred. Two years of CAP/CLIA experience preferred.

Salary Range: $102,589.71 - $135,674.89
