General Summary of Responsibilities: Prepares patients for rehabilitation treatments, assists PHYSICAL/OCCUPATIONAL/SPEECH THERAPIST or PHYSICAL/OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT (medical ser.) 076.224-010 during administration of treatments, and provides routine treatments: Assists patients to dress, undress, and put on and remove supportive devices, such as braces, splints, and slings, before and after treatments. Secures patients into or onto therapy equipment. Safeguards, motivates, and assists patients practicing exercises and functional activities under direction of professional staff. Provides routine treatments, such as physical agents or modalities under the direction of a therapist in accordance with state practice act (including active and passive range of motion activity). Transports patients to and from treatment area independently including management of oxygen tanks, IV poles, assistive devices, medical lines. Ambulate patients designated to a 'walking program' safely and independently. Effectively communicates with medical staff regarding patient needs. Cleans work area and equipment after treatment. May record treatment given and equipment used. May inventory and requisition supplies and equipment. May adjust fit of supportive devices for patients, as instructed. May assist in patient feeding for those needing assist.
Other duties as assigned for rehab department as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists licensed rehabilitative staff in the provision of patient care including but not limited to: transporting, assisting, and preparing patient and equipment for provision of care.
- Able to properly assist in the set-up and disassembly of therapy modalities and treatments on patients including but not limited to hot/cold packs, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and iontophoresis, as well as therapeutic exercise under the supervision of a therapist.
- Cleans work area and equipment after treatment including preparing space for next treatments.
- Provide Therapists with appropriate information regarding patient complaints of and reactions to treatments.
- Assists with fitness center related paperwork and scheduling.
- Yearly demonstration of safe practice with all fitness center equipment for safe exercise practice with sign off of completion.
- Performs clerical duties including, but not limited to:
- Makes a conscious effort to analyze the entire schedule and efficiently schedule patients and ensures that patients are scheduled for the appropriate number of visits and alerts therapist to changes in scheduling.
- Assist therapists in time management to ensure that all scheduled patients are seen in a time efficient manner.
- Answers phones, handles messages, and ensures that all new patients have a complete chart made and that all information collection in performed.
- Perform full admission of outpatient rehab patient into current hospital EMR and current outpatient EMR.
- Mails, faxes and tracks return of initial evaluations and recertification
- Performs monthly data entry for department statistics for manager review.
- Assists in maintaining all up to date filing.
- Including but not limited to: retrieval of orders from providers, photo copy/complete daily logs, fill and pull patient charts, input charges accurately, document statistics, efficiencies and referrals and log patient numbers, order supplies.
- While working as a restorative aide, he/she will attend at least 80% of Social Service and Rehab huddles while professionally communicating with staff.
- Assisting therapists with patients of all ages and will demonstrate yearly competency in related tasks.
a. Provides therapists with appropriate information regarding patient complaints of and reactions to treatments.
b. Transporting, assisting, and preparing patient and equipment for provision of care.
2. Performs essential job duties regarding restorative aide:
a) Assist therapist with home evaluations and under the supervision of the therapist assist with therapy treatment.
b) Performs all cleaning and overview of inpatient rehab room
c) Assists activities coordinator when needed
d) Prepares inpatient and swing bed patients for their daily rehab session.
Other Job Functions:
- Assist in: departmental cleaning, professional months, establishing and maintaining professional and beneficial relationships with referral sources.
- Participate in department and hospital programs to ensure the highest quality and efficient delivery of quality care. To include, but not limited to: departmental chart reviews, policy and procedure manuals, and quality assurance committees.
- Reviews / Signs Departmental Policy and Procedure Manuals as well as participate in yearly review of policy and procedure manuals.
- Attends 80% of all scheduled departmental in-services and meetings when scheduled to work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Personal Skills/Attributes: Attendance & Punctuality- Review and sign off on hospital attendance/punctuality policy yearly
- Attendance at mandatory meetings/education: Be present at 80% of all department monthly meetings. Be present at 80% of monthly in-services
- Professionalism & interpersonal relationships: Average 75% on yearly peer evaluations.

Age Requirements
Must be 19 years or older
Education:
Required: High School Diploma
Experience:
Required: Be proficient with computer skills and programs including, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
License/Certifications:
Conditional: BLS within 90 days of hire.
Personal Skills: This person shall have the ability to be a self-starter, arrange priorities, and organize work. They must possess the ability to pay close attention to detail while performing the job. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, to effectively work with all parties the position comes in contact with. Must possess a positive attitude and be willing to represent the department both internally and externally in a positive manner.
