Position Summary:
To manage and administer the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) program for the inpatient floors, providing clinical and professional supervision and direction to occupational therapy staff.
Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations:
- Registered by NBCOT as an Occupational Therapist required.
- Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider.
- Education:
- Current Colorado OT license.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
- Experience:
- Experience in supervision and two years of experience with TBI and SCI populations preferred. Patient population may also include multiple diagnoses.
- Skills & Abilities: Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, including listening and conflict resolution. Excellent organization and customer service skills. The ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly while meeting established deadlines. Must have the ability to handle highly confidential information. The ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. The ability to work independently with limited supervision. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and strong attention to detail both mechanically and technically. Possess above average problem-solving skills, judgment, and flexibility. General knowledge of extracting information from database systems is preferred. Strong computer skills with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PPT) are required. Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Review physician referral and all medical records pertaining to the patient's condition.
- Evaluate and document patient's physical, emotional/cognitive, perceptual and functional abilities.
- Plan for and provides occupational therapy COTA evaluation and treatment programs for patients.
- Provide treatment to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and adapt the plan of treatment as needed.
- Consult, coordinate, communicate and orally present patient programs and progress to treating team members.
- Design, construct/adapt and/or prescribe specialized equipment/orthotics to increase an individual's functional independence or physical integrity.
- Provide written documentation of patient's ongoing progress toward reaching goals (daily, weekly, etc).
- Teach patients and families treatment techniques and home program material.
- Participate in discharge planning, including home checkouts and recommends home modifications.
- Conduct training, educational programs or orientation for staff, students, visitors or volunteers.
- Attend educational in-services and maintain knowledge of current treatment trends.
- Clean and maintain a safe work area.
- Perform emergency and safety procedures for the protection of patients, self and others.
- Assist in department education and development in collaboration with the Director, Education Coordinator, and Assistant Supervisors.
- May assist in supervision and evaluation of OT students at different levels of their training.
- Supervise all COTA's in the program
- Orient and train new staff.
- Delegate responsibilities and patient assignments to staff and coordinate patient coverage.
- Provides direction, feedback and counseling of job performance and provides a yearly written performance evaluation of each staff person.
- Quarterly chart reviews
- Assist Department Director and Education Coordinator with department compliance with hospital and accrediting agency requirements.
- Supervise COTA program and operation, coordinating efforts with interdisciplinary team members.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget and monitor concurrently. Monitor and analyze costs associated with supplies, staffing, etc.
- In the absence of department director will assume responsibilities in conjunction with other supervisors.
- Assist the department director in managing operations of the COTA program by assuming duties assigned, providing information regarding and identifying departmental needs.
- Follow hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions.
- Understand their responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the importance of hand hygiene in all environments.

Pay Range: $44.89/ Hour - $75.41/ Hour
