As a Clinical Supervisor at UNC Health Appalachian, you will play a vital leadership role in supporting daily clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within the Women’s Health clinic setting. This position partners closely with the Practice Manager to oversee clinical workflows, staff development, patient care coordination, and operational efficiency.
This role is ideal for a strong clinical leader who is passionate about mentoring staff, improving patient experiences, and fostering a collaborative healthcare environment.
Compensation: Starting at $22.09 per hour, based on education, experience, certification, and internal equity
Status: Non-Exempt

What You’ll Do as a Clinical Supervisor
Clinical Operations & Oversight
- Supervise and support daily clinical operations to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
- Monitor compliance with clinical protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee patient care activities to maintain quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support to medical assistants and clinical staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback.
- Collaborate with the Practice Manager on recruitment, onboarding, and staff development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
Training & Quality Improvement
- Implement and coordinate training and educational opportunities for clinical staff.
- Stay informed on healthcare trends and best practices to support staff competency.
- Conduct audits of clinical workflows and processes to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinic performance and patient outcomes.
Patient Care Coordination
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Oversee scheduling workflows, appointment management, and patient flow.
- Address patient concerns and support a positive, patient-centered experience.
Communication & Resource Management
- Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and clinic leadership.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration throughout the department.
- Manage clinical supplies, equipment, and inventory to ensure operational readiness.
- Assist with budgetary planning and resource allocation for clinical operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with supervisory experience required
- Associate Degree in Allied Health or Health Sciences preferred
Experience
- Previous clinical supervisory experience required, preferably in a medical assistant or LPN role
- Demonstrated leadership experience in healthcare settings
- Women’s Health clinical operations experience preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Current CMA/RMA certification or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of North Carolina
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of ambulatory clinical operations and workflows
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and providers
- Strong problem-solving and operational management abilities
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and supervise procedures
- Ability to lift and carry clinical supplies and equipment
- Frequent movement between patient care and administrative areas
Work Environment
- Women’s Health clinical environment with patient-facing and administrative responsibilities
- Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and multidisciplinary staff
- Exposure to examination rooms, clinical equipment, and healthcare environments
- Occasional flexibility in scheduling based on clinic operational needs
- Adherence to infection prevention and safety protocols at all times
