Summary
Assists in managing and maintaining customer relationships. Responds to customer service requests and requirements as well as assists acquiring new business opportunities. Performs mechanical duties, testing and inspections as required on equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or at a vendor facility. More time may be be spent in the SMS Valparaiso workshop initially, as the equipment learning process takes place. Time spent in the field, as well as customer responsibilities, will increase as experience is gained.
Duties and Responsibilities
Visit customers regularly for sales and service calls, ensuring that customers in designated sales areas are visited with a view to selling them SMS products and servicesIdentify customer needs and resourcesAssist and solve customer’s problems / issues and liaison with SMS group divisions including plant personnel and managementAssists in initial customer contact, and receiving and expediting requests for proposal Assist in customer follow up, including follow up of: quoting, order placement, job completion and deliveryPerform mechanical duties; Disassemble, assemble, test and inspect equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or vendor facilitiesInterface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projectsProvide any additional support where neededPerform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required

Must have related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience Ability to calculate figures and amounts Must be able to read prints / drawingsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systemsKnowledge of disassembly, assembly, machining and fabrication methods including MIG, SMAW & TIG welding practicesKnowledge of overhead crane, lift trucks and maintenance including hoisting and rigging techniquesFrequent travel within the North American region (USA, Canada, Mexico); Possible limited international travel. Travel can, at times, have a short notice window (customer emergencies / personnel needs). Travel is typically a few days to a week; Occasional extended periods of travel are possible.Computer skills preferred: Microsoft Word / Excel / OutlookMust have a valid driver’s licenseValid passport is required

Schedule- Full-Time, 8-hour shift
- Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with 30 minutes for lunch
