North Star Community Credit Union is seeking a highly experienced Senior Agricultural & Commercial Loan Officer to lead and grow a significant agricultural and commercial lending portfolio across the rural communities we serve.
This opportunity is designed for a proven agricultural lender who thrives in relationship banking and understands the complexities of modern farm and agribusiness operations. The role focuses on developing and managing a $50MM–$150MM portfolio while building long-term partnerships with producers, ranchers, and commercial members across North Dakota and Minnesota.
The successful candidate will bring strong credit expertise, a deep understanding of regional agriculture, and a track record of building high-quality lending portfolios within rural markets.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Leadership & Growth
- Develop, manage, and grow an agricultural and commercial loan portfolio ranging from $50MM–$150MM.
- Build trusted relationships with producers, ranchers, agribusinesses, and commercial operators.
- Identify new lending opportunities and expand relationships within established agricultural markets.
Loan Origination & Credit Structuring
- Originate and structure complex credit solutions including:
- Farm real estate financing
- Operating lines of credit
- Equipment and machinery financing
- Livestock and production loans
- Agribusiness and commercial real estate lending
- Conduct detailed financial analysis including cash flow, tax returns, balance sheets, and collateral evaluation.
- Prepare and present high-quality credit packages for loan approval.
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively manage credit risk.
- Conduct ongoing borrower reviews, financial analysis, and farm visits.
- Ensure lending activities align with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Community & Industry Engagement
- Maintain strong visibility within the agricultural community through:
- Farm visits
- Industry events
- Producer meetings
- Community partnerships
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor helping producers navigate capital investments and evolving market conditions.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a relationship-driven agricultural lender with credibility in rural markets and the ability to manage complex lending relationships.
Required Experience
- 7–12+ years of agricultural and/or commercial lending experience
- Demonstrated success managing large agricultural loan portfolios
- Strong knowledge of row crop, livestock, and diversified agricultural operations
- Experience structuring multi-million-dollar agricultural and commercial credit facilities
- Proven ability to develop new business and maintain long-term borrower relationships
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Agricultural Economics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Technical Expertise
- Agricultural financial analysis
- Cash flow modeling and credit structuring
- Collateral evaluation including land, equipment, and livestock
- Loan documentation and regulatory compliance
Preferred Background
Experience lending within North Dakota and Minnesota agricultural markets is highly valued.
Professionals with backgrounds supporting large-scale crop and livestock producers, agribusiness operations, and complex farm financing structures—particularly those with experience managing significant agricultural loan portfolios in rural financial institutions—will be well positioned for success in this role.
