Director of Learning & Development (L&D) Programs

Role Overview
The Director of Learning & Development Programs leads Petfolk’s learning strategy and team, ensuring every program drives measurable impact on clinical performance, client experience, and employee growth. This role builds and scales a sustainable L&D structure that balances Petfolk-original content, licensed education, and external CE programs.
As a strategic leader, this Director integrates learning into every stage of the employee lifecycle—empowering Petfolk team members to thrive through development opportunities that strengthen clinical excellence, leadership capability, and client-centered care.
This role goes beyond delivering training. The Director of Learning & Development creates a why-driven curriculum that shapes beliefs, mindsets, and behaviors. Petfolk’s mission to transform veterinary medicine requires reimagining how teams learn, think, and connect to purpose—and this leader brings that vision to life through intentional, inspiring programs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute Petfolk’s enterprise L&D strategy aligned with business goals, clinical standards, and growth objectives.
- Oversee all L&D sub-functions—Systems, Petfolk Programs, and External Programs—ensuring cohesive, high-quality delivery.
- Translate operational and clinical priorities into actionable, measurable learning initiatives.
- Partner closely with Medical, Operations, and HR leaders to embed learning across onboarding, ongoing development, and leadership pathways.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the L&D team, fostering clarity of ownership, collaboration, and accountability.
- Champion Petfolk’s BEST values and model a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Build clear success frameworks and professional growth pathways for clinical team members.
Program Oversight & Execution
Oversee the design, execution, and continuous improvement of:
- Systems: Learning platforms, medical education systems, SOP governance, vendor relationships, and technical issue resolution.
- Petfolk Programs: Clinical onboarding, core education, and initiative-based learning across care team verticals.
- External Programs: CE partnerships, vendor education, new graduate and externship programs, and instructional design strategy.
- Ensure program accuracy, quality, and alignment with business and clinical needs.
- Refine learning offerings using data (completion rates, engagement, competency outcomes).
- Manage external instructional design partners as needed to scale content development.
Data-Driven Impact & Evaluation
- Establish and monitor KPIs to assess learning effectiveness, adoption, and ROI.
- Evaluate training impact on operational and clinical outcomes (efficiency, quality, client satisfaction, retention).
- Track internal mobility, promotion rates, platform adoption, and engagement metrics.
- Deliver clear, data-driven insights to leadership on the impact of L&D initiatives.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Champion adult learning best practices and modern delivery methods (microlearning, blended learning, mobile-first content).
- Identify and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance accessibility and effectiveness.
- Ensure the L&D ecosystem remains scalable, intuitive, and clinically relevant as Petfolk grows.
Owned KPIs
This role is directly accountable for improvement in:
- Training effectiveness (completion, satisfaction, competency outcomes)
- Clinical and operational impact metrics (efficiency, quality, retention, client satisfaction)
- L&D team engagement, growth, and internal promotions
- CE utilization and learning platform adoption
- Employee engagement and perception of learning culture

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Organizational Development, Learning, or related field preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive L&D experience, including 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience supporting multi-site or healthcare/veterinary organizations strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to design, scale, and measure learning programs tied to business outcomes.
- Experience leading teams, managing learning systems, and vendor partnerships.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, project management, and communication skills.
- Deep knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design.
- Comfortable translating data into compelling ROI narratives.
- Ability to influence, collaborate, and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
