Job Summary
The Surgical Patient Access Registrar is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely patient registration for surgical procedures. This role involves collecting and verifying patient information, insurance details, and ensuring compliance with medical necessity and eligibility requirements. The registrar will provide financial estimates and collect upfront patient financial responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- Complete thorough and accurate patient registration via telephone or in-person contact with patients, guarantors, or referring providers before surgical appointments.
- Verify patient information, including personal details, medical history, and insurance information.
- Ensure compliance with medical necessity and insurance eligibility requirements.
- Provide accurate patient financial estimates and collect upfront patient financial responsibilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure smooth patient flow and address any registration issues.
- Assist patients with understanding their financial responsibilities and provide information on payment options.
- Handle patient inquiries and resolve any registration-related issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the hospital's electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Collect pertinent billing information such as Assignment of Benefits (AOB), Consent Forms, Lien/LOP signature, Authorizations and all other forms.

Minimum Education/Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Minimum of three (3) years of Registration or Financial clearance experience in a healthcare setting
Minimum Work Experience
Must be detail-oriented and have sound computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with review of electronic health records software applications. Cerner EHR preferred
