GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Cardiac Technologist II position is the 2nd level position in Cardiology and is required to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for outpatients and routine Cardiology testing such as electrocardiograph (EKG). This position is responsible for greeting the Outpatients, managing the Outpatient waiting room, combined with Order Entry, report retrievals, burning CDs, and very basic functions of the Muse system.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Greets and assists patients in the Outpatient Waiting room always using the Acknowledge, Introduction, Duration of time, Explanation, and Thank you (AIDET), throughout the patient experience; always offering assistance to visitors and customers with friendly and positive attitude.
- Answers phones using telephone etiquette and is able to direct and resolve all questions and needs related to the department.
- Review the outpatient’s order for type of study or laboratory draw to be performed. Verify you have the correct patient using two identifiers with the registration form according to policy.
- Using two identifiers, enter patient information into the RIS for accurate order entry for all exams and laboratory procedures done.
- Works with Diagnostic Imaging staff to ensure timely service to all outpatients waiting in the Outpatient Waiting room. Promptly follows up with wait time communication to the outpatient.
- Proficient in phlebotomy skills following established protocols.
- Ensures proper sterile techniques and Standard Universal Precautions are applied appropriately to prevent cross contamination during patient care to ensure safety to both patient and self.
- Follows department protocols in performing EKGs
- Performs quality check of EKG prior to discharging patient from Outpatient Center (OPC) and escalates questionable EKGs appropriately and sends them to MUSE for physician reporting in a timely fashion.
- Follows department protocols regarding report retrieval and very basic function of the Muse system. Ensures daily reconciliation of Open Order Report
- Provides patient escort to and from OPC and patient units as needed or requested. Always display professionalism when dealing with colleagues and customers.
- Contributes to positive working relationships by building morale and staff satisfaction.
- Assists with keeping supplies at par level and rotating supplies to eliminate the loss due to expiration.
- Keeps work area clean and free from clutter and dust.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and follows all applicable HIPAA standards.
- Assists with personal development through training and mentoring as assigned or requested. Maintains professional certification and personal education efforts and seminars
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors as assigned
- In compliance with Holy Cross Hospital Attendance Standards and Dress Code Policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education and/or licensure requirements:
- Certificate in Cardiology Diagnostic Testing – required
- Phlebotomy Certified - required
- CPR certification – required
- Compliant with PPD requirement
Experience:
- 1 year experience working directly with patient care – preferred
- New graduate from an accredited program in Phlebotomy and electrocardiograph (EKG) - required
- Demonstrated initiative and polite behavior – required
