Responsibilities:
- Provides professional nurse management and individual care services in a medical detox/residential care program.
- Provides structured, treatment team meetings daily, with all detox staff on duty to review progress, concerns and changes in treatment, in conjunction with Chief Medical Officer
- Provides direct supervision of medical and housekeeping staff, including interviewing, hiring and scheduled performance evaluations.
- Monitors compliance with logging, documentation, tracking and reporting per detox/residential treatment regulations and requirements through DHHS, JC and private insurance.
- Maintains quality assurance of nursing documentation and individual records.
- Creates and updates written standard operating procedures and trains staff as necessary.
- Creates and manages all in-services required by licensing and JC standards as necessary.
- Supervises and manages nursing care delivery. Works with the Chief Executive Officer on assuring safe staffing ratios and nursing coverage.
- Supervises the medical department to ensure high quality individual care which includes scheduling and training assigned employees, evaluating their performance, developing action plans and implementing corrective action as required.
- Maintains nursing, residential technician and housekeeping schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Manages and takes inventory of stock medications and supplies.
- Updates and maintains policies and procedures related to nursing care delivery.
- Reviews and signs off on nursing documentation as needed.
- Ability to initiate work independently, flexibility of scheduling for work hours to include on-call responsibilities.
- If staffing requires, will be responsible to perform duties of the charge nurse, admissions nurse or staff nurse on any shift.
- Maintains professional boundaries with clients and interacts with them in an appropriate manner.
- Collects data on significant adverse medication reactions and significant medication errors and presents data in team meetings.
- Institutes performance improvement initiatives within the Nursing/Medical service, identifying opportunities to improve department processes by reviewing incident reports, implementing root cause analyses and instituting departmental corrective action plans when indicated.
- Identifies infection risks and establishes priorities among the risks identified.
- Sets goals to minimize the possibility of spreading infection and addresses its priority risks.
- Oversees the operations of the infection prevention, epidemiology, facility hygiene and relevant safety programs.
- Revises and maintains the organization’s infection control policies and procedures.
- Oversees cleaning, sterilization and disinfection procedures.
- Educates, monitors and evaluates hand hygiene protocols amongst staff and clients.
- Provides infection control education and communications to staff and clients.
- Responsible for coordinating the infection control program which includes surveillance, analysis of data, developing reports and policies and procedures.
- Provides orientation and training to staff who perform waived testing.
- Assesses the competency of staff performing waived testing using two of the following methods: performance of a test on a blind specimen, periodic observation of routine work, monitoring each user’s quality control performance, or use of a written test specific to the test assessed.
- Establishes a written quality control plan for waived testing that specifies the method(s) for controlling procedures for quality, establishes timetables and explains the rationale for choice of procedures and timetables.
- Revises and maintains the organization’s waived testing policies and procedures.
- Routinely audits patient records to assure documentation compliance and opportunities for staff improvement
- Facilitates weekly Quality Assurance meetings to review Incident reports, follow-ups to previous incident reports and other facility quality/performance improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- 1 year of emergency or med-surge nursing experience required.
- 2+ years of related clinical experience required.
- 2+ years of supervision experience.
- Must pass State of Georgia criminal background and driving record checks.
- Current certifications in Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Knowledge of the federal drug and alcohol confidentiality law (42.C.F.R Part 2) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics for nurses.
- Management experience preferred.
- Must have strong leadership, team building and communication skills.
- Must be able to physically respond to individuals’ needs in the event of a crisis situation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills required.
- Proficient in MS Office and computer systems (e.g. individual management software).
- Possesses great time management skills needed to meet aggressive deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Working knowledge of medical detoxification for substance abuse.
- Full working knowledge of DHHS and JCAHO regulations governing detox/residential programs.
