ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY:
World Relief serves immigrants in Sacramento with immigration legal services and is a Department of Justice-recognized immigration legal services provider. The position increases the capacity of the ILS program to meet the legal needs of Afghan individuals with an emphasis on Dari/Pashto interpretation, translation, screening, and immigration form preparation under the supervision of licensed legal practitioners. This position requires strong oral and written communication skills.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Client Services
- Assess prospective clients (over the phone and in person) to help them register for appropriate legal consultations
- Conduct phone-based screenings of clients concerning pathways to permanent legal status
- Send clients electronic intake materials and gather necessary documents to assess eligibility and/or aid in applying for immigration benefits
- Meet with clients to collect required signatures and documentation and complete intake worksheets
- Update client tracker spreadsheets and World Relief’s case management system as cases are completed
- Assist in client referrals to other WR programs and social service providers
- Provide legal interpretation/translation services during client meetings
- Prepare initial drafts of immigration forms to be submitted to USCIS
- Prepare physical applications for submission to USCIS
- Assist in staffing workshops to serve clients with adjustment of status, asylum, and employment authorization document applications
- Other duties as assigned, as related to serving Afghan community members
- Community Outreach and Education
- Build relationships with relevant community leaders and community organizations
- Interpret for in-person and online education seminars on legal topics relevant to Afghans
- Host a table at community events to promote World Relief and our services
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Mature and personal Christian faith
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
- Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
- Trilingual fluency with English, Dari, and Pashto are essential
- A university degree, whether from an academic institution in the U.S. or abroad
- Highly detail-oriented and self-directed with strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong relational skills and demonstrated cross-cultural understanding
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and organize in a fast-paced and fluid environment
- Must be able to pass a background check, including criminal record and motor vehicle reports
- Must have regular access to a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and proof of liability insurance
- Familiar with Microsoft software including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and negotiating skills, the ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally with a diverse range of people, and the ability to respond appropriately to sensitive and/or confidential information and requests
