Human Resources Benefits Specialist

Responsible for the administration of employee benefit plans, employee wellness program, and overall support of the Human Resources function.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys and other sources of information including consulting services.
- By utilizing appropriate resources, recommends and develops specifications for new plans or modifies existing plans to maintain the hospital’s competitive position in the labor market.
- Implements approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plan to employees. Coordinates employee benefit seminars. Revises and reissues all communication materials on benefits from time to time.
- Advises and counsels employees on existing benefits.
- Reviews benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and policies.
- Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes.
- Handles benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.
- Develops information, statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers and management.
- Sends enrollment, change, and termination data to appropriate vendors in a timely manner to ensure accurate insurance coverage enrollments.
- Accurately keys all new employee and current employee deduction changes and ensures benefits are activated/inactivated as needed.
- Responsible for payment of vendor invoices, which includes accurate monthly auditing of each bill.
- Balances and validates all benefit payroll deductions.
- Conducts HR benefits orientation for new hires.
- Develops and manages the Employee Wellness program, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
- Responsible for overseeing and successfully executing the following annual events: Employee Benefits Fair, Employee Health Fair and related testing events, Employee Service Award Luncheon.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
- Maintains a high degree of ethics, integrity, diplomacy, and confidentiality in dealing with employees, and external customers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational and/or Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Human Resources or Business related field required.
Previous Experience:
- Minimum two years Human Resources experience required.
- Previous insurance/benefits experience preferred.
Other Special Training/Skills:
- Must be able to exercise independent judgement.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and knowledgeable of word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
