JOB SUMMARY

Emergency Department Tech’s (ED Techs) assists with and supports the basic care of patients of all ages in accordance with specific job functions, skills and duties as outline by Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County for this position. ED Tech’s provide patient care tasks and skills within his or her legally recognized scope of practice and in concert with the nursing and physician team members. The ED Tech will work only in the Emergency Department or in transferring the patient to another area from the Emergency Department. Upon request and approval by the care team in the ED, the ED tech may start IVs in other departments on patients of all ages. The ED Tech assists patients with activities of daily living, basic care needs and limited patient data collection, placing patients in patient care rooms, assisting with patient ambulation and activity needs, starting IV’s (on all ages), limited medication administration on ages over 12 years old, applying braces/splints etc. and supporting other members of the healthcare team in the delivery of care to the patient with the scope of the education and role. The ED Tech is critical in keeping the patient environment safe, organized and functional. The ED Tech will assist the nursing unit secretary by performing clerical and receptionist duties as needed.

ED TECH JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licensed in the state of Wyoming as an Advanced EMT, Intermediate EMT, or Paramedic required. BLS certification required.

Job Knowledge and Skills:
-
Has knowledge of basic medical terminology used in the clinical area. Basic knowledge of activities of daily living and adapts know to use within the clinical area. Able to provide basic care to patients of all ages. Must be able to adapt to workload to a variety of situations within ED. Must be proficient in the operation of a personal computer. Familiar with use and operational functions of medical and office equipment commonly used in their role as an ED Tech.
- Paramedic Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Education: Current certification in the State of Wyoming as a Paramedic. NREMT required. Must hold current a current BLS certification, or obtain within 30 days of hire. ACLS, PALS, PEPP, PHTLS certifications preferred. Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency. Requirements for BLS will be as described in a hospital policy. Minimum 2 years of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency.
