Under the direction of the Director of the Cancer Center and clinical direction of the radiation oncologists, coordinates and supervises the overall function of the Radiation Oncology Department. Supervises radiation therapy clinical spaces and workflows including radiation therapy operations within simulation and treatment room. Assists in optimizing patient flow through the department by coordinating inpatient and outpatient scheduling with other modalities and departments including transportation. In collaboration with the Department leadership, and the clinical staff, develops and enhances of appropriate therapist workflows associated with planning, quality assurance, safety, and protocol development. Direct liaison with the physicians, physicists, nurses, and dosimetrists to address any challenges in the clinic include equipment performance, patient schedule challenges, emergent patient needs, etc. Implements recommendations and/or follow-up items regarding any therapy related patient issues. Facilitates clinic safety huddles and attends appropriate staff meetings as the radiation therapist team lead. Oversee the performance of the local radiation therapy team including the establishment of performance standards, enhancement of staff engagement, and development of performance improvement if necessary. Manage, conduct annual performance evaluations, develop annual goals, and assist in any other human resource related activity. Mediate individual personnel concerns and refer to the Director any unresolved issues relating to staffing, scheduling, work methods, morale, procedures, safety and other issues regarding department personnel. Employee counseling: Investigates issues and discusses the issues and potential resolutions with the Director. Responsible for implementing any resulting action items. Investigates unsatisfactory procedures or problems and makes recommendations for their solutions. In cooperation with the physician and administrative leadership, maintains knowledge of hospital, local, and federal agency guidelines, educates the therapist team on the appropriate protocols, and collaborates with the local Department leadership in the site visit, including preparation. Examples include The Joint Commission. Conducts Therapy Staff meetings: In coordination with daily operations manager and physician leadership, create agendas, and schedule and facilitate meetings, minutes and follow-up. Ensure that all staff have appropriate training and competency across all equipment. Develops the rotational schedule for all therapist staff focusing on ensuring staff development, patient safety, and continuity of care. Oversee the implementation of this training by ensuring that therapist rotations across the equipment is effectively management to ensure staff development, patient continuity and safety, and efficient utilization of equipment. Effectively manage vacation and leave calendars to ensure clinical coverage goal. Responsible for training, and maintaining skills of the technical staff. Familiarizes students with equipment, positions, techniques, and assists in their clinical evaluation. In cooperation with the physician and administrative leadership, maintains knowledge of hospital, local, and federal agency guidelines, educates the therapist team on the appropriate protocols, and collaborates with the local Department leadership in the site visit, including preparation. Examples include The Joint Commission. Supervise and evaluate preventative maintenance program for assigned equipment. Perform job responsibilities in compliance with OSHA exposure control plan. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with the department and Organizations safety and infection prevention policies and procedures, and with relevant regulatory and legal standards. Control inventory of technical supplies, working within budgetary restrictions, and coordinate purchasing/inventory control. Encourage team spirit and enthusiasm in the staff by demonstrating a positive attitude and an ability to work with others in a cooperative effort to ensure customer satisfaction and continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations. Attends in-service education programs and department meetings, and participates in film critique sessions. Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the Radiology Department and all hospital personnel. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform duties based on a working knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life-span. Appropriately interprets the patient's age-specific requirements and needs to perform the appropriate diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures to achieve the best possible outcome. Requirements: Graduate of an ARRT/JRCERT approved school with degree in radiation therapy. Two years experience as a Radiation Therapist preferred, a minimum of one year experience as a Radiation Therapist required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Certification in radiation therapy by ARRT. Licensed to practice Radiation Therapy in the State of New Hampshire (1/1/2019) CPR certification must be acquired and maintained within three months of hire date and maintained biannually.
