Job Summary

Counsels patients and/or parties responsible for payment regarding payment options, evaluates the financialsituations to best arrange method of payment for services rendered and works within financial limitations thatmay exists to explore payment plans and financial assistance to best serve the patient and thehospital.Completes routine and detailed work assignments. Duties and tasks are standardized. Exercisessome judgment. Refers more complex duties and tasks to higher levels.

Job Responsibilities
-
Explains financial responsibilities for services received, payment options and collection procedures to patientsand/or parties responsible for payment.

Conducts interviews, meets with patients to obtain necessary documentation and verifies financial eligibility forvarious financial assistance programs
-
Counsels patients regarding insurance benefits and recommends alternative source of payment and performsfollow-up to ensure maximum collection is achieved.

Reviews uncollectible accounts such as deceased patient, bankruptcy and return mail to send to agencies orattorney for next level of collection process.

Responsible for retrieving all necessary documentation of bad debt/charity adjustments as needed forMedicare Cost Report.

Education
-
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required. Associate's degree in related fieldpreferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Work Experience
-
0 to 4 years progressive experience in a related field required.

Complexity of Work
-
Learning and applies knowledge at a basic level relying heavily on senior staff for troubleshooting. Requirescritical thinking skills and decisive judgement. Works under direct supervision. Must be able to work in astressful environment and take appropriate action.
