About the Project:
The Kigali Centralized Sewerage System Project is a critical urban infrastructure initiative aimed at improving public health, environmental sustainability, and wastewater management in Rwanda’s capital. The project includes the construction of wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and an extensive sewerage network.
Position Summary:
CRCEG is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer to lead and oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of biological, chemical, and physical treatment processes for the Kigali Centralized Sewerage System Project. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of wastewater treatment systems, from design through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of wastewater treatment processes including preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment systems.
- Review and validate process calculations, hydraulic profiles, mass balances, and treatment modeling to ensure technical accuracy.
- Oversee the selection of process technologies based on site-specific conditions, influent characteristics, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with design, mechanical, electrical, and civil teams to ensure seamless integration of process systems.
- Evaluate and interpret lab and field data to monitor process performance and propose necessary optimizations.
- Support the procurement team in preparing technical specifications for treatment equipment and chemicals.
- Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of treatment units and ensure they meet design criteria.
- Ensure compliance with national and international water quality standards and environmental discharge regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, operational manuals, and process control guidelines.
- Train operational staff on process functionality, monitoring, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in sanitary Engineering or environmental process engineering is an advantage.
- 10 years of experience in wastewater treatment design, construction, and commissioning, and centralized municipal sewerage systems.
- Strong knowledge of biological (activated sludge, MBBR, SBR), physical, and chemical treatment processes.
- Familiarity with international wastewater standards (e.g., WHO, ISO, EU) and local environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in process simulation and modeling tools (e.g., BioWin, GPS-X, WEST) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with international contractors or engineering consultancies is preferred.
