To plan, organize, supervise, coordinate and control the activities of plant operations, and to maintain operative and safe working conditions in the hospital. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assures competency of all staff. Responsible for fiscal operation of the department.
- Reports to the Director of Support Services regarding the physical and structural conditions of hospital facilities and the status of work in progress.
- Responsible for departmental staff matters to include interviewing and the hiring of new staff, training, evaluating work performance, promotion, counseling, discipline and termination.
- Develops, evaluates and implements: departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work for the maintenance and repair of medical equipment, buildings and building systems. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
- Participates in the development and applications of standards of quality and productivity for the Facilities Department.
- Administers and implements the maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant. Monitors its applications to assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriate documentation of the same.
- Works closely with other departments and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.
- Schedules and supervises maintenance repair work, alterations, remodeling, minor construction and the checkout, installation and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems.
- Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies to maximize the operational readiness of hospital building systems and equipment with due respect to the limitations of cost, regulations and relative priorities.
- Responsible for the selection and coordination of all maintenance service contractors and ensures all contractual provisions are met along with established codes.
- Responsible for developing the annual operating budget, which includes staff, equipment, materials and supply needs. Continues to monitor budget after adoption.
- Administers and implements the preventive maintenance program of fire alarm system according to National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) criteria. Responsible for the development of policies and procedures relative to fire and safety.
- Directs all aspects of Building Services management in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Establishes operational procedures for activities such as; staff assistance with patient restraint and intervention in disruptions by patients, visitors and staff; traffic control; guarding and patrolling physical property; escort service for visitors and staff; monitoring systems response; orienting and monitoring of staff working in high-risk areas; and investigation of accidents and criminal acts
- Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection prevention and control programs.
- Confers with representatives of local government to ensure cooperation and coordination of security activities with law enforcement and fire fighting agencies.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, minimum of an associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two (2) year college or technical school; or 3 to 5 (3-5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years’ experience in a leadership role.
