About The Role
Megaport is looking for a Technical Writer to join our technical publications team and develop Megaport’s product documentation.
The technical writing team works closely with engineering, product management, support, and different parts of the business to gather information about the product and how it is used by Megaport, customers and its partners. With this knowledge, they create and continually improve online documentation that guides customers through the configuration and maintenance of Megaport products and services.
What You'll Be Doing
- Write clear, concise, and complete step-by-step procedures for technical products and solutions.
- Identify and address content gaps or the need for additional media such as diagrams or videos.
- Contribute to Product UI and API documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, product and support teams to create new content and improve on existing content based on feedback.
- Identify opportunities and action to improve existing documentation and documentation platforms.
- Help standardize terminology and develop company style guidelines.
- Help to maintain and improve our authoring environment.
- Manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.
- Work independently, defining and meeting project objectives.
What We Are Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, researching, and planning technical documentation with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Excellent skills in grammar, minimalist documentation design, and effective information architecture.
- Ability to structure written content thoughtfully, considering maintenance and re-usability.
- Ability to write content in our authoring environment: MkDocs (using Markdown in VS Code) and GitHub, per existing style guides and procedures.
- Strong technical skills with ability to work closely with technical subject matter experts.
- Skills in organizing complex ideas for a technical audience.
- Effective collaboration with globally-distributed teams to gather information and get technical review of content.
- Experience with analytics and measuring the strengths and weaknesses of documentation.
- Writing samples to demonstrate skills.
- Experience in software-defined networking, enterprise networking, and cloud-based software solutions.
- Experience with API documentation (e.g. openAPI).
- Bonus: Experience creating network diagrams and conceptual art using Figma or similar.
- Bonus: Experience with localization and translation.
- Bonus: Familiarity with data centers and or cloud networking
- Bonus: Fluency in languages other than English that we support: Japanese, Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Italian & others
