Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the department supervisor/manager performs targeted rounding in active patient areas to recover assets for processing and redistribution. Supports Respiratory Therapy in many clinical activities under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. Allows for ample opportunities to experience a wide range of patient populations and different patient care activities performed by Respiratory Therapists.
Responsibilities:
- Cleans, delivers, evaluates and inspects specified medical devices (such as infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, PCA pumps, DVT pumps, specialty beds, specialty carts and procedural trays).
- Documents work activity in an electronic database.
- Delivers and recovers specialty carts and procedural trays.
- Follows up and assists with administrative duties.
- Stocks and takes inventory of Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.
- Performs analysis of arterial and venous blood gases.
- Performs EKGs.
- Assists during rapid responses and codes.
- Records vital signs including pulse oximetry spot checks.
- Assists with medication dispensing.
- Sets up and downloads overnight pulse oximetry trend studies.
- Assists Respiratory Therapists with relaying new or urgent orders.
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent with a strong background in Math and Science.
- Continuing employment is contingent upon the completion of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program within 5 years of hire preferred.
Certifications:
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required within new hire period.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Must be adaptable and flexible to changing work assignments during a shift.
Work Experience:
- Prior health care experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk long distances while pushing a cart of equipment/supplies.
- Must be able to lift equipment in excess of 35 lbs.
- Push/pull loaded carts of equipment in excess of 100 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protection equipment as required by department.
