Registry RN Chemo Certified for OP Mount Sinai Hospital Infusion Unit
Mount Sinai Hospital’s Cancer Program includes our Ambulatory Chemotherapy Infusion Unit (nine-chairs), the Hematology/Oncology Clinic and a 28 bed inpatient unit on 6 North. Our Cancer Program is accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer with commendation and has been honored with exemplary clinical practice from the American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Practice Initiative.
Our oncology nurses, who administer chemotherapy, are trained through the Oncology Nursing Society’s Chemotherapy and Biotherapy class. We are proud that many of our nurses are Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN). We have a Nursing Shared Decision Making Council, which sets goals and tactic implementation for our areas. The council has worked on safety, communication and education, to name just a few. Since new cancer drugs are constantly being released to the market, we have a very robust chemotherapy/biotherapy continuing education program. Additionally, our staff attends sponsored dinners for educational purposes and to build comradery.
Our Cancer Program holds weekly Cancer Conferences, where new patients are discussed in a multi-disciplinary milieu. This is the “gold standard” for cancer care. We have quarterly Cancer Committee meetings where we plan, implement and study progress toward Commission on Cancer standards of practice. We participate in phase III clinical research trials, with one of the highest percentages of patient enrollment nationwide for a Community Cancer Center. Our Tumor Registry Department keeps track of our cancer patients and sends electronic data to the State of Illinois, the Center for Disease Control and the Commission on Cancer. We have over 450 new cancer patients diagnosed each year.
Since our Cancer Program is multi-disciplinary and patient-centric in nature, many services are offered throughout the entire continuum of care, including Nurse Navigation, Financial Counselor, Social Work, Chaplain, Palliative Care/Hospice, Supportive Care Clinic, Survivorship Program, Dietician, Radiation Oncology Community Prevention, Detection and Screening Programs.
Flexibility with scheduling provides you with a better work-life balance. We are committed to the high standards of the Oncology Nursing Society, while having an outgoing and sociable staff. Besides recognizing each other on our Recognition Board, we celebrate our birthdays each month. If Oncology Nursing is a passion for you, our Cancer Program is the place to be!
