JOB SUMMARY: A sleep technologist trainee works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea testing; diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. Technologists, technicians, and trainees work under the direct supervision of the credentialed sleep technologist or the medical director and will perform all department functions including; Patient Scheduling & Pre-authorizations; PSG testing; CPAP Titrations; MSLT studies; MWT studies; Day Studies; Split Night studies; Scoring; and assisting with department quality assurance & performance improvement programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A Sleep Lab Technologist will be currently certified or eligible for certification (within 1 year of employment) as a certified or registered technologist in sleep disorders such as a RST, RPSGT, and/or SDS.
Experience:
Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of employment.
- A Polysomnographic Technologist will be currently certified or eligible for certification (within 1 year of hire) as a certified or registered technologist in sleep disorders such as a RST, RPSGT, and/or SDS.
- Completion of STAR – designated self-study education program.
- AND
- Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.
- OR
- Ability to become certified within 1 year of hire.
Preferred:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Licensed by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care with a temporary license with continued employment based upon successfully passing the next available national exam is required within 1 year of employment.
- Minimum 1-year of experience working in a Sleep Lab, Sleep Clinic, and/or Sleep Center.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.
