OR Charge Nurse
This role supports the OR and GI procedural areas, providing clinical oversight for our procedural patients. As OR Charge Nurse, you would be a working leader responsible for efficient operations of our procedural areas. Surgery performs elective procedures Monday–Friday and only on-call coverage on weekends and holidays. Prior procedural area charge experience preferred, and on-call rotation required. Job Summary
Reporting to the OR Nurse Manager , provides and coordinates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.
- Oversees and directs the surgical schedule/surgery tracker board.
- Creates daily staff assignments accordingly.
- Coordinates all changes in the surgical schedule with appropriate departments (SPD, ASU, anesthesia, surgeons, vendors, PACU, and surgical staff).
- Ensures all surgical staff have had appropriate morning and lunch breaks (scrub techs, nurses, and surgical assistants)
- Responsible for at least 2 days of assigned patient care as needed.
- Completes daily logs (crash cart, equipment, temperature, etc.) ensuring unit compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Serves as a resource to subordinate nursing staff for problem solving and decision making.
- Develop and maintain physician relationships.
- Acts as clinical resource to staff and leadership for surgical patients and procedures.
- Assists with new staff orientation and ongoing education for current staff.
- Assists in maintaining preference cards for surgical procedures and surgeons.
- Reviews supply, implant and special ordering needs for upcoming procedures.
Related Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
- Associates in Nursing; Bachelors preferred.
- Current IL State RN licensure and CPR Certification
- Team and customer service skills
- Computer skills - windows and database systems
- Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, EKG monitoring, arrhythmia interpretation, airway and ventilator management as required per department.
- AORN certification preferred.
