Provide supervision for lab staff; perform routine and complex analysis in all laboratory sections; maintain and establish quality assurance and system controls. The ideal candidates will have the following:
Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)
1. Facilitates the provision of the laboratory services to the hospital and neighboring community. Oversees quality assurance programs, measuring and reporting on patient and physician expectations, developing short and long term goals for assigned areas (in conjunction with the Chairman of the Department of Pathology) and developing programs, marketing plans and advertising campaigns to promote growth. 35%
2. Monitors the laboratory information systems ensuring that proper records are appropriartely processed, retained and stored; effectively interfaces with hospital information systems. 20%
3. Oversees the selection, training/orientations and assignment of department staff (either directly or through subordinates). Develops standard of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel action. Ensures that staff meets all educational and responsibility requirements for clinical laboratory testing as defined by federal law. 15%
4. Develops and recommends department operating and capital budgets and ensures that the department operates within fiscal budgetary parameters. Develops strategies to achieve laborartory financial goals. 10%
5. Participates in interdepartmental or multi-disciplinary groups to ensure that the department’s services are effectively integrated into the organization’s system for delivering patient care. Identifies opportunities for service area expansion across continuum of care. 10%
6. Ensures that the operation of the department complies with the responsible accrediting and licensing agencies. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. 10%
Marginal Functions (list in order of importance)
Ø Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions with others.
Ø Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Ø Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
Ø Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
Ø Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, workshops and committees for self and for staff. Attends and services on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
- ASCP certification
- Minimum of 3 years experience is all areas of the lab, including Blood Bank with a clear understanding of all areas related to lab operations.
- Minimum of 2 years previous management/supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Physics, Chemistry or related field.
- PC skills, including LIS.
