DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Registered Nurse is the designation given to an individual who is licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct
and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved school for professional nursing, and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse
pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. Included in such responsibility is providing nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, planning and
restoration for optimal functioning and comfort, of those they serve.
The Registered Professional Nurse functions as a health care team leader responsible for the safe delivery of patient-centered, goal oriented
care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Professional Nurse also directs and
guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless specifically stated otherwise.)

Experience:
-
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.

Recognized by peers as an experienced and competent clinician.
-
Active participant in informal staff education.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and compliance with BMC Service Excellence Standards required.
-
Demonstrates dependability in maintaining a committed work schedule, acting as a role model for others.

Demonstrates participation in activities that support the hospital’s mission and goals for outstanding patient care, (i.e., committee participation, QI participation, recent preceptor experience, etc.).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with evidence of accuracy.

Demonstrates energy and enthusiasm required to motivate others toward change in a supportive manner.

Demonstrates leadership ability in high stress situations. Maintains professional conduct in front of patients, families, physicians and staff at all times.

Demonstrates the ability to utilize critical thinking skills.

Sets example for staff behavior through professional attitude toward work.

Understands concepts of professional nursing.

Treats co-workers with dignity and respect.

Education and Training:
-
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
-
Must have a minimum of 3 years as an OB Circulator in the Operating Room.

Must be enrolled in an BSN Program and complete program within 3 years of hire into this position OR have a BSN.

Masters preferred.
-
License, Certification & Registration:
-
RN License - Currently licensed as an RN in Massachusetts.
-
ACLS Required.
-
BLS required.
-
NRP required.
-
Other Requirements:

Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations. Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice.

Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetic that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.

Other Addendum(s) Requirements:
-
Clinical Educator experience preferred.

Five years of Critical Care experience is preferred.
-
Minimum of five years current expertise in area of clinical practice required.

Computer and audio visual skills.
-
Arrhythmia trained.
-
Progressive Neuro or Neuro trained.
-
Teaching experience preferred.
