We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help us scale our CMS platform to support millions of users and hundreds of sites, to power the network of high-traffic digital entertainment platforms including AdultTime, PureTaboo, and more.
This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on solving complex engineering problems, making architectural decisions, and leading by example. You will have the autonomy to shape our backend systems and influence the technical direction across teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and build scalable, high-performance systems powering some of the most visited sites in digital entertainment.
- Lead technical strategy – set standards, make architectural decisions, and influence engineering best practices.
- Drive cross-team initiatives to improve platform scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and business leaders to align engineering work with company goals.
- Mentor and coach engineers across teams to elevate code quality and technical growth.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies to push the boundaries of reliability and speed.
- Tackle legacy challenges head-on: refactor, re-architect, and improve critical systems for long-term success.
- Improve observability, security, and system resiliency while reducing tech debt.
- Be a technical leader and communicator, translating complexity into actionable plans.
Qualifications:
- A proven track record building and scaling large distributed systems.
- Deep experience with PHP (including testing frameworks like PHPUnit) and backend architecture.
- Expertise in SQL databases (tuning, indexing, performance).
- Experience working on multi-tenant, high-traffic platforms.
- Strong systems thinking – you anticipate edge cases, failure modes, and scaling bottlenecks.
- A natural ability to lead initiatives, influence peers, and communicate across functions.
- A passion for reverse-engineering, refactoring, and evolving legacy systems.
- Hunger for learning and exploring new technologies.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with Node.js and testing frameworks like Jest.
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies like AWS Lambda or Cloudflare Workers.
- Contributions to open-source projects or internal tooling that improved developer workflows.
